Community Assistance | KLCFDC

Beyond information and technology, the KLCFDC is well aware that our community has other needs. This includes the many community groups and organizations within the City of Kawartha Lakes, as well as individuals with projects and ideas to help make our area a better place to live, work and prosper. This is why we can also look at applications for financial assistance by the way of small grants or contributions to activities felt to be important to the community and aligned with our overall goals and objectives. (This is of course, beyond what could be available through our support via the Federal Government's Eastern Ontario Development Program, EODP, which we encourage you to visit and consider applying to.)

If you or your organization have a valid program idea where a small capital infusion is critical to its success, we may be able to help. From the ongoing input received from residents and stakeholders throughout the City of Kawartha Lakes, and through our Community Consultation exercises, we assess and prioritize needs and determine which initiatives may receive a contribution from us. And while our funding in this area can be limited, our role in community economic development may lead to further funding or assistance to support the project.

We have also often provided support through an in-kind donation, such as by making our facilities available to groups for meetings and also by donating time to a project. Some examples of this could include: Assisting in the development of historical or cultural resources in the City of Kawartha Lakes as they relate to tourism or through encouraging/ the promoting of communities as visitor destinations. We can also work with community-based organizations in seeking assistance from other government organizations or agencies. In this case our support might include:

  • Developing strategic plans and initiatives,
  • Serving as a reference or point of information for outside agencies and support,
  • Encouraging non-resident, elder or seasonal resident involvement, or
  • Encouraging youth development and employment.
