The needs of our community are as diverse as the people and businesses located here and the organizations and activities that are taking place. As part of our Community Futures mandate, the KLCFDC undertakes to initiate periodic "community consultations" that help to not only gage what our area needs a but also to assist us in both providing information to those that can support these requirements, as well as looking to take on some of these tasks ourselves. In fact, it was through one of our community consultations, coupled with the new Economic Development Mission that the City of Kawartha Lakes developed in 2007, that the KLCFDC assisted the municipality for over 2 years by overseeing its economic development department. And while this is now no longer a part of our daily activities, it led to a second consultation regarding developing a more open and ready for business attitude and improving relating actions around business development. But while a great deal of our focus is on business and community economic development, the KLCFDC also looks to work to understand socio-economic needs and to support dialogue and distribution of information that will help all of us to live better and ideally, healthier lives and enjoy all our municipality and beyond has to offer. To this objective, we continue to work with many groups and individuals, to map assets, track needs and support activities that promote both social enterprises and community well-being.
